Why Oktoberfest is Octoberbest!!

Apologies for the title, but I couldn't resist.

The first weekend of Oktoberfest has gone by and it was an F'in blast. Friday night, the party of choice was at Moses Springer with pretty much every single person from Waterloo that I know (Dave Pooley an exception, he's out of province... though probably there in heart). Hell, even Andrew Gall was out gettin...uh....fested. Props to Paul Lehmann for bringin some cigars. The annual smoking patio heart to heart with folks is a pleasant symptom of Oktoberfest. My only possible complaint would be to the genius who decided not to allow more than 4 drinks tickets to be sold at once. I can understand having to regulate drinking for saftey and liability, but that's what bartenders are for. I swear I waited 45 minutes in line to get tix when we first arrived.... at 8:30pm!

Saturday night was a bit of a blur, courtesy of our favourite Molson rep, Derek Fisk. He showed us the town, from jailbait beauties walkin around Queensmount to tons of beer and Canada's premier polka band at Concordia Club. The night ended with some more food and beverage at the Molson hospitality suite. We had a good crew there (would have been better, had, in my drunken state, I not 'outed' the beautiful Candace as being a Labatt employee...my apologies darling) who indulged in the hospitality. At one point, Paul Blakely, one of the Molson bigwigs popped in to suggest we quiet down the party a little. It may have been a coincidence that this occurred about the same time that Sarge, Fedy and I discovered the game "who can stay drinking from the kegerator the longest"...but I doubt it. At this point I cannot recall many more details - similar responses were shared by Sarge and Fedy.

Sunday night actually managed to top off the weekend rather well. We obtained passes (thanx Scotty McCannell) to Rocktoberfest at Queensmount... I mean really, who can pass up Walter Ostanak ANDthe Trews!!! The night started out a little rough; I had to wait a good hour before hitting my first drink, but after that we got nice and warmed up at Marc's place. When we got there we noticed that these guys were on the ball - 10 ticket max until 11:30, so of course, I bought 10 tickets. We all hung out and played pin the beautiful ladies until the Trews came on (not saying Walter didn't impress us). I first saw these guys play a free nooner at the Bomber last February and I've been rocking to them ever since. They put on a fucking incredible show. Between them and Sam Roberts, good ole Canadian Rock'n'Roll is in safe hands. After the show and 16 tickets, we had the brilliant idea to go to Phil's. There may have been some rye at home after that.... too much!!!

Thanks to Marc, Sarge, Fedy, Pat, Tim, Paul, Bee-rent, Stashuk, Wardo, Siddall and the rest for some kickass times.

Special thanks to Scotty and Derek for your hospitality.
